I've admired many styles of Invicta watches for some time now. I think they are bold and can very easily fit certain niches in a man's wardrobe. The Invicta 0070 hails from their Pro Diver collection – a series that has long been seen as very aesthetically close to Rolex's Submariner line. The difference with the 0070 is that it has its own aesthetic charm. Truth be told, I was also intrigued by the serial number as I fancy all things James Bond . Ian Fleming would be proud.
When the watch arrived, I tried it on but couldn't get a true fix on how it would look on my wrist. I wanted to communicate to my readers not just how the watch looks but also how it felt. Taking this in stride, I went ahead and sized the watch to fit my 7” wrist. Sizing was easy as the watch uses pins that push out. I removed 6 links and did some minor adjustments on the clasp until the watch fit perfectly.
At first, the watch felt like it weighed no less than a metric ton. I felt I would be in control of the tides when I dove into the ocean just from the sheer weight of the watch. Of course, this is a ludicrous concept but it was funny nonetheless – at least to me. Within a half of an hour, the weight of the watch subsided completely and it felt great. Amazing how adaptable we are as a species.
The 0070 features case dimensions of 48mm for its diameter with the crown and pushers not included in that measurement. Case height stands at 17mm, which makes this timepiece a very prominent fixture on my wrist. The bezel is unidirectional – a feature that has become a staple of functional diving watches .
When I tried to turn the bezel with its scalloped edge I found it to be
a bit stiff, but after a few revolutions it turns nicely now with a
click count of 120. The bezel is distinguished from the brushed and
polished stainless steel case by its blue color and chrome colored,
printed Arabic numerals and dot markers.
The push/pull main crown is large but as this is also a large watch it doesn't look out of place. The chronograph pushpieces feature a similar design to the crown. Personally, I would have liked to have seen this watch with a screw down crown. The pushers respond very well when pressed. There is just the right amount of resistance and a slightly audible click when the chronograph becomes engaged. On the left side of the case, there is the word 'Invicta' engraved into the case middle. The water resistance on this model is 200 meters or about 660 feet. At this rating, you can go diving in the ocean.
The 26mm bracelet is held in place through horn shaped lugs. The bracelet fits so flush against the case that the result looks as if the bracelet is integrated into the case. The bracelet design is beautiful and definitely sets this watch apart from others in its class. The clasp used is single folding and snaps into place securely. On top of that, there is another security latch, making sure this watch doesn't fall off the wrist.
The dial is a beautiful shade of blue – dark blue and under the right light can sometimes look almost black. The dot hour markers are applied in stainless steel with some lume. Also carrying lume are the skeletonized, sword shaped hands marking the hours and minutes. Invicta equips this watch with Trtinite branded lume for the best in readability under all conditions. The chronograph seconds hand is in silver tone as the other major indicator on the dial. At the 12 position is the applied logo and the brand's name 'Invicta' in silver tone. The subdials at the 9 and 3 positions are highlighted by silver toned rings around them. This gives the watch almost a bi-compax look. The subdial at 6 gives a readout of the chronograph hours, while the subdial at 9 gives an indication of the chrono-minutes. As stated before the chrono-seconds are indicated by a central hand. The continuous seconds can be found on the counter at 3 o'clock, pointed by a red hand. The date can be seen through an aperture at the 4 position. What is cool about the date setup is that there is a cyclops over the aperture, which magnifies the reading by a factor of 2.5.
Invicta uses their proprietary Flame Fusion crystal to defend against
scratches, which can diminish the aesthetic value of a watch in my
opinion.
Powering this timepiece is a Swiss made quartz movement caliber Ronda 5030.D .
Ronda actually makes two versions of this movement - a Swiss parts
version with 6 jewels and a nickel plated finish, and a 13 jewel
iteration with gold plating. The Invicta 0070 uses the former. Both movements use hacking seconds and feature the full chronograph up to 12 hours. Expected battery life is 54 months. vedere di piu
